Dr. Simcha Fishbane
Rabbi Dr. Simcha Fishbane, has been a rabbi, scholar and educator serving the Jewish community for many years.He was born in Toronto, Canada. He studied at both Ner Israel Yeshiva in Baltimore and Yeshiva University in New York, where he received his Bachelors, Masters Degrees and Smicha (rabbinical ordination).Dr. Fishbane was awarded his Doctorate in The Social Anthropology of Religion from Concordia University in Montreal, Canada.He is also the recipient of honorary doctorates from two Russian universities.
Rabbi Fishbane served as a chaplain in the Israel Defense Force and achieved the rank of Colonel.There he developed a framework for imparting Jewish education within the military establishment.He is also the founder of a Jewish university in Moscow, Russia, a branch of Touro College, (the first of its kind after the fall of the Communist regime) and served as its Dean for three years.He has also been instrumental in establishing similar programs in Canada, Israel, Germany and Italy.Dr. Fishbane is presently the Executive Assistant to Dr. Bernard Lander, founder and President of Touro College.
Rabbi Fishbane is the author of numerous books and articles on such diverse topics as Mishnah Berurah, Aruch Hashulchan, Mishnah and Talmud, as well as contemporary Jewish life in North America.His two most recent works, Jewish Studies in Violence and Deviancy in Early Rabbinic Literature are soon to be published.
Rabbi Fishbane is married and has four children and five grandchildren, all of whom live in Eretz Yisrael.
