Happy Lag BaOmer!
Students Re-connect with Nature, Torah and Each Other.
Lag BaOmer, the 33rd day of the Omer, marks the day that Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai (Rashbi), the author of the Zohar, passed away. On his deathbed, Rashbi asked his students to celebrate this day joyfully. Since his mystical teachings bring fire into our service of G-d, we customarily celebrate the day by lighting bonfires and spending the day outdoors, enjoying the beauty of G-d’s world. Additionally, the Lag BaOmer marks the end of a plague that killed many of the students of Rabbi Akiva (teacher of Rashbi) because they did not act respectfully towards each other. So on Lag BaOmer, we increase our unity and love for one another.
In honor of Lag BaOmer, JETS enjoyed an overnight trip in Castaic Lake, where we disconnected from our devices and reconnected with nature, Torah and each other. We spent the day hiking, playing sports and participating in outdoor activities. As part of our value to leave this world better than we found it, we organized a park cleanup. The day ended with a bonfire kumzitz, complete with songs, stories and inspiration. The spirit of unity and brotherliness that filled our boys was deeply touching.
At JETS, we’re all about igniting the flame of passion inside of our boys, inspiring them to pursue their dreams and embrace their heritage and traditions. Lag BaOmer represents that inner fire, that burning desire to delve into Torah and make it come alive. It is our mission and hope that our boys carry that fire with them throughout their lives.
